Siaya - Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has lost another officer in a horrible accident in Bondo, Siaya county.

How a KDF officer died in Siaya

The Kenya Air Force officer identified as Payton Mitch Opiyo died in a road accident around the Nyamonye area along Bondo-Usenge Road on Sunday, April 21.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, stating that Opiyo died alongside a motorcyclist, Richard Omondi, after a head-on collision involving two motorcycles.

Citizen Digital reported that the Air Force officer was riding a motorcycle while carrying his brother Felix Opiyo and was heading towards Bondo when the accident happened.

The police boss said Opiyo’s brother, Felix, and another passenger sustained multiple leg fractures.

Officers from the Bondo traffic base visited the scene and moved both bodies to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await autopsy.

The pillion passengers were rushed to Siaya County referral hospital in serious condition.

The police boss stated that the two motorcycles, which were extensively damaged, were taken to Nyamonye Police Post to await inspection.

The incident comes a few days after ten other Kenya Defence Forces officers died in a helicopter crash on Thursday, April 18, during a visit to troops deployed to implement the Maliza Uhalifu operation to flush out livestock bandits.

President William Ruto confirmed in a televised address to the state on the evening of Thursday, April 18.

General Francis Ogolla was onboard a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) plane that crashed in Keben on the border of the Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.
