Uhuru stated the 2024 South Africa General Election was very important, with a record number of registered voters.

"Joined other international observers at polling stations as South Africa's General Elections commenced this morning. This election is a significant milestone in South Africa's democratic journey, with a record 27.79 million registered voters, the highest number since the end of apartheid.

Uhuru observed that the country's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) confirmed substantial voter registration, indicating strong democratic engagement among South Africans.

South Africans are casting their ballots to elect the National Assembly and Provincial Legislatures in each of the nine provinces.

What is the importance of Uhuru's work

Uhuru further stated that he would work with other observers as he gets their assessment of the South African electoral process.

He said his presence in the nation highlighted the African Union's (AU) commitment to supporting democratic transitions.

"The former Head of State and his team will engage with other observers throughout the day to share insights and assessments on the electoral process. Their presence underscores the importance of transparency, fairness, and credibility in the election. The AUEOM's involvement highlights the African Union's commitment to supporting democratic processes across the continent," he added.

Uhuru's new appointment excites Kenyans

TUKO.co.ke reported that the news of this appointment stirred a political conversation online.

Many Kenyans celebrated Uhuru's new role, while others criticised the move.

They took on each other by reminding anti-Uhuru campaigners that the former head of state was not living a lonely life at his Gatundu home as they had prayed and predicted.
