Uproar After KDF Soldiers Are Filmed Assaulting Police Officers In Mombasa: "Tuombee Nchi Yetu"

Mombasa - Kenyans have slammed the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers who were captured on camera assaulting police officers.

How the Likoni incident happened

The KDF special operations brigade was headed to the Kenya Navy Mtongwe base when they faced off with the police at the Likoni Ferry Island on Saturday, April 27.

The army men on their way to Mtongwe assaulted a security guard at the Likoni Ferry, catching the attention of the police officers present.

When they went to find out the cause of the initial scuffle, the KDF officers turned their rage on the police officer, whose colleagues showed up to defend him.

The viral video of the confrontation caused condemnation from Kenyans, many of whom said such incidents should not be encouraged.

Many called for disciplinary action against the KDF officers involved in the scuffle.

How Kenyans reacted to the scuffle between KDF and police

Lord Abraham Mutai:

"Extremely embarrassing. The Army, in any Civilian Rule, is under the police and answers to the civilian authority unless they have overthrown that civilian authority. These Army officers MUST be court-martialed. No way this should be allowed to stand."

Henry Kabogo:

"As a citizen, it is painful to watch Kenya Police fighting administration police."

Douglas Orang'i:

"It was an embarrassing scene. We expect better."

Abuga Makori EGH, MBE:

"The KDF Rangers Strike Force are the ones who misbehaved in Likoni. The incident must be thoroughly investigated. KDF must operate within the law. They must respect law enforcement agencies."

Omwamba:

"What is really happening with KDF nowadays? They recently Stormed Lodwar Police Station now they are attacking The Kenya Police here at Likoni Ferry. Where are we heading?"

Mike Sonko:

"What is going on? Regular police and KDF soldiers wamelimana tena huko Likoni leo. Dust has not even settled of similar scenario in Turkana county. Tuombee nchi yetu kesho kanisani shetani ashindwe."

KDF-police drama in Lodwar

The incident came a few days after another drama between the police and KDF officers in Turkana county.

On April 17, drama ensued in Lodwar after an officer attached to the Lodwar Police Station manning a roadblock faced it rough at the hands of a group of army men.

The KDF officers onboard their water truck demanded the officer remove the roadblock so they could pass.
