Bungoma: The family of self-called deity Yesu Wa Tongaren now wants President William Ruto to consider posting his children in the country's defence forces.

The family's matriarch, Prophet Benjamin, appealed to the president while inviting him to Bungoma, where he will preside over this year's Madaraka Day fete.

What was Jesus of Tongaren family's plea to Ruto?

The mother of eight thus called on the president to salvage her family from the shackles of poverty by taking them into the army.

She said the president and First Lady Rachell Ruto were the only hope for her family.

"I would like to inform the president that I have two children who are done with school. They would like to join the military. I plead with the president to help me. He will have saved us from poverty. 'Jesus' has taken his children to school but they have not been lucky to find a job," said Benjamin.

The couple became the talk of the town in 2023 after claiming to be real children of God.

They are based in Tongaren, Bungoma county, where their church is also situated.

Yesu Wa Tongaren claims he is the real Messiah, who God sent to the world to deliver humankind from sin.

According to him, his ministry and mission are not limited to Bungoma, his native county.

The faithful of his church hold him in high regard, and they marvel at his ability to heal the sick and perform other miracles.

To help him with his ministry are 12 disciples whom he says are descendants of Jacob.

Their appeal came as the president was in their home county to lead the nation in marking the 61st Madaraka Day fete.

Where will 2024 Madaraka Day be held?

The fete will be held at the newly-built Masinde Muliro Stadium.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the venue was ready to host the event.

Kenya will be commemorating 61 years since it attained its internal self-rule.

Omoloo marvelled at the 40,000-seater stadium being transformed into a state-of-the-art facility within four months.

He was confident that the amenity would be of great benefit to the local community and offer the country the necessary pride.
