Strikers switching from the Serie A to the Premier League have had mixed fortunes over the years.

Thierry Henry remains arguably the greatest success story from the Serie A to the Premier League, but there are a few flops as well

Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee has made an encouraging start to the season, and expectations will be high for the Dutchman.

Henry joined Arsenal in 1999 from Juventus and transformed the Gunners. He won multiple league titles and Golden Boots and left as the greatest foreign player in the English top flight.

Tjhe Premier League can be punishing for players joining from other leagues due to the intensity and criticism. Here are some Serie A strikers who failed to live up to the expectations, per Planet Football.

Serie A striker who flopped in Premier League

Andriy Shevchenko

Shevchenko joined Chelsea in 2006 after a hugely successful spell at AC Milan, where he won the Serie A, the Champions League, and a Ballon d'Or. His first season (2006/07) was dreadful. He scored 14 goals in 51 games in a season that saw Jose Mourinho sacked.

His second season was not great. He scored just eight goals, and by the summer of 2008, he was back at AC Milan. He scored 22 goals in 77 appearances and remains one of the biggest Premier League flops.

Mario Balotelli

The Italian striker has often been criticized for his antics rather than his football ability. He scored 13 goals in 2012 to win the Premier League title with Manchester City, but his other two seasons at the club were underwhelming and controversial.

He later joined Liverpool in the 2014/15 season, but it was a spell to forget, as he scored just four times that season. The striker would go on to have a decent career around Europe.

Stevan Jovetic

Jovetic was one of the many top players Manchester City signed in the early 2010s. Jovetic arrived in 2013 at a young age after impressive performances at Fiorentina.

He scored three goals in his first Premier League season and five the following season. He won a Premier League title but left Man City in 2015. The Montenegro striker struggled to recover that scoring touch in his career.

Gianluca Scamacca

Scamacca was one of the most exciting strikers in the world. The Italian arrived at West Ham from Fiorentina in 2022 but failed to live up to the price tag. He spent one season at West Ham and scored three Premier League goals.

He was shipped to Atalanta, where he rediscovered his form, scoring 19 goals and winning the Europa League. He is currently recovering from an ACL injury.

Gianluca Vialli enjoyed success at Chelsea after joining from Juventus. Perhaps Thierry Henry, who is regarded as the greatest Premier League player ever, was the biggest success.

The Arsenal legend joined the Gunners from Juventus and is the club's record goal scorer.

Zirkzee scores match winner for Man United

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Joshua Zirkzee fired Man United to their first win of the 2024/25 season.

The hitman got off the mark with a scrappy finish and salvaged a largely uninspiring Premier League opener from Erik ten Hag's side.
