The mum of a young man who died days after falling ill has spoken after the story went viral online.

Celestine Korir, mum to Felix Kipyegon, opened up about the heartbreaking moment she was going through.

Korir heartbroken by son Kipyegon's demise

Speaking to Nation, the saddened mother praised her lastborn son, who had an undoubtedly bright future.

"The news that my son fell sick and was hospitalised while queuing for admission was shocking. I am yet to comprehend what happened. He was a focused and disciplined young man. The family looked forward to his settling down at Kirinyaga University, completing his education and securing a job.

"Unfortunately, we sent him off in high spirits, and now he will return home in a coffin. We depended on him to change our future, but now all we have is pain and loss," she cried.

Kipyegon's family seeks to raise KSh 400,000

Korir painfully revealed the family relied on fundraising to raise money to send their teenage son to university.

They now need the same financial support to raise money for his medical bills, which he accrued during his treatment in the hospital, including staying in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a few days.

"On our own, we wouldn't have been able to raise money for him to go to university. But much as we had so much hope for him in the future, death has claimed him, and we are leaving everything to God. We are appealing for support from well-wishers to help us settle the hospital bill amounting to KSh 400,000 and funeral expenses," the Bomet woman cried.

University of Eldoret first-year dies after admission

In another story, Kenta Fredrick, a first-year student at the University of Eldoret, was reported dead.

The youngster tragically passed away just days after being admitted to the institution.

His peers fondly remembered him as a mathematics enthusiast with a bright future.
