On the evening of the incident, around 8 pm, the medic was at home with his wife and their three young children when a man arrived at his doorstep.

"The stranger claimed that he needed immediate medical attention for a patient," he started.

In his dedication to his profession, Ochieng agreed to attend to the situation without hesitation.

However, upon stepping out to assist the alleged patient, the same man who had sought his help turned on him, attacking him viciously.

Ochieng sustained a severe cut on his neck during the initial assault.

As he struggled to defend himself, another assailant, who had been lurking in the darkness, joined in the attack.

"In a desperate bid to protect myself, I raised my arm to block the blow, but the force of the attack was so intense that my hand was severed," he said.

The trauma of the incident forced him to leave his position at Jerusalem Medical Centre.

"I could no longer continue in that environment," he said, reflecting on how the attack has impacted his life and career.

Ochieng is currently recovering, but the attack has left him physically and emotionally scarred.

Now focusing on his recovery, he is also concerned about the well-being of his family, who were deeply affected by the violent incident.
