Homa Bay - A family is concerned about the mental state of their kin, who cleared his university education years ago.

Victor Omondi Mboya is a bright young man who graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

He also aimed to pursue higher education by pursuing a master's in journalism, but his dream was shattered.

Why did Omondi quit his job?

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, Wycliffe Mboya said his brother's mental health was affected after he struggled to find a job.

"He quit his second job, claiming there were some unresolved issues. Things got more demanding and challenging, probably taking a toll on him. Being the firstborn in a family of eight, he could not secure a job despite several applications.
He seemed to have been burdened by the need to show he was a leader and could provide since we were raised by a single mum after our dad passed away after a battle with sickness," he said.

He is calm, Omondi's brother says

Mboya noted his 29-year-old brother's mental state deteriorated, and even his countenance looked pale.

He said that occasionally, his brother would talk to himself and get irritated whenever someone asked him if he was alright.

"He is calm and can respond when you talk to him, but as soon as you finish, he continues to talk to himself. He is never violent, but sometimes he gets wild. We have taken him to one counsellor, but his state has not gotten better," he cried.

Mboya staying with brother in Juja

Mboya, who stays with his brother in Juja, Kiambu county, denied any possibility of his brother abusing substances.

He expressed his worry over their mother, who is stressed and concerned about her firstborn.

"I had to ask my brother to stay with me in Juja and not return home to Homa Bay because it is also tough for my mother. It is difficult at all, and it is better she calls and hears her son is okay than see him suffering," he added.

Mboya can be contacted on his number +254 769 328563 as he seeks professional help for his brother.

Kiambu graduate sets himself ablaze in Mombasa

In another story, Kenyans acknowledged that cases of mental illness, especially depression, were on the rise and called for urgent interventions.

The family of Robert Gituhu confirmed that he had manifested episodes of mental illness by disappearing from their Kiambu home twice.

Robert succumbed to burns after he set himself ablaze on Thursday, August 17 2023, in Mombasa Central Business District.
