Kakamega - A police officer has been arrested following a violent altercation with a tuk-tuk crew along the Kakamega-Kisumu Road.
The incident, which occurred near the Kakamega Police Station, led to the officer discharging his firearm, injuring 28-year-old Derick Chibini.
According to Citizen Digital, police constable Nathan Bett had been deployed to maintain order at the court premises but returned his Ceska pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.

Investigations later established that Bett had fired two rounds during a scuffle with a tuk-tuk crew.
Officer Bett was detained and would be charged with attempted murder as action would also be taken against the officer in charge of the armoury.
"The said officer has been arrested and placed in cell for attempting murder. Also action to be taken to the in charge armoury for issuing a ceska to a member of other ranks," the report read in part.
The fight reportedly started after the tuk-tuk operators refused to stop and allow him to alight at the Kakamega Police Station gate.
Bett claimed that the crew in the tuk-tuk intended to kidnap him, prompting him to fire his weapon in self-defence.
As per the preliminary probe, Bett's gunfire struck the 28-year-old man, inflicting two gunshot wounds.
Chibini sustained injuries to his left shoulder and a penetrating wound that entered through the right collarbone and exited through the left.
He was rushed to Mukumu Dispensary and later transferred to Oasis Multispecialty Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
In other news, two police officers linked to the escape of the Mukuru killings' prime suspect, Collins Jumaisi, were released on bond.
Jumaisi escaped from the highly guarded Gigiri Police Station alongside 12 Eritreans who were nabbed for being in the country illegally.
A suspect who watched his colleagues escape alleged that he saw one Eritrean offer money to two officers before they left for a station's canteen.
