Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has flagged a job advertisement doing the rounds on social media.

The advertisement promised a cleaning job opening at the utility firm.

What KPLC said about fake job advert

In a response shared on its social media, KPLC dismissed the advert as fake and warned the public against becoming victims of conmen.

"Usichezwe na ma-conmen, kaa rada (Do not conned, stay alert)," read KPLC warning in part.

What makes the job advert fake

The job opportunity promised the successful candidate a monthly basic salary of over KSh 29,000 plus advance salaries.

However, most job adverts, including those from KPLC, do not specify the amount an individual will earn before they are selected.

The announcement also showed other companies in partnership with KPLC, which raised eyebrows as most job adverts do not show sponsorship deals.

It also had a questionable email address, with extensions such as .go.ke and gmail.com. Most KPLC emails ends with extension .co.ke.

Where to find genuine Kenya Power job adverts

KPLC makes job announcements only via its official website and social media handles.

Last month, the electricity distributor posted an invitation to apply for the management trainee programme on its official sites.

"We are looking for brilliant, dynamic, and self-driven people eager to make a difference and join our results-oriented teams. Applications are now open for suitably qualified candidates for various positions within the programme," read the job advert in part.

KPLC said the job vacancies are open for all qualified and interested candidates to make applications.

The electricity distributor invited applications for various positions, including engineers, ICT and customer service officers.
