He was convicted there in 2022 after he was charged on two counts separately.
He received a five-year prison sentence for aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order that prohibited him from approaching or contacting his victim.
On the second count, the Kenyan was sentenced to two years in prison for stalking and transmitting threats to his victim.
The ex-presidential candidate famously known as Mwalimu Dida previously ran for the Kenyan presidency twice but was unsuccessful.
Kenyans turned to social media to share their reactions to Dida's arrest. Some expressed sympathy for him, while others raised questions about the reasons behind his arrest.
Polycarp:
"Ala, what did he do?"
Baha Machachari:
"And no one knew about it?"
Suleman:
"What? Stalking? Doesn't make sense."
Abdi Adow:
"There are lame charges."
One Kenya:
"Waah, how fast life can change."
Elkins:
"What is this now?"
Mwalimu Dida first ran for the presidency in 2013 and made a second attempt in 2017, but was unsuccessful in both attempts.
In his second bid, however, Dida received fewer votes, garnering 38,004, which accounted for 0.25% of the total votes cast.
He previously worked as a religious and English teacher at Lenana School in Nairobi.
He reportedly also worked for Daadab Secondary School.
