Kevin Omondi from Obochi slums in Kisumu county has finally joined the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to study electrical engineering.

Omondi needed KSh 400k annual fee

Omondi shot into the limelight when TUKO.co.ke shared his story about not having KSh 400,000 annual fees to study the coveted course.

The government will pay part of Omondi's fees, and his family will pay KSh 16,000 every semester.

Despite the fees aspect being settled, Omondi was still grappling with the issue of transport to Nairobi and accommodation once there; he needed about KSh 20,000, and once his appeal was posted on TUKO.co.ke, well-wishers stepped in to help.

Omondi's brother will join polytechnic

Stella Tande, the mum of child model and philanthropist Aileen Akinyi, told TUKO.co.ke that the young man would be admitted to JKUAT on August 25, and they are working on furnishing his simple KSh 5000-a-month house with the basics.

"I had deposited the rent for two months already, told him when his Helb upkeep comes he will settle the rent of the third month, then they are two boys sharing so it's KSh 2500 each a month, they just need a bed, matress and meko for now," said Tande.
"Thanks so much everyone, you have really helped this family; someone has promised to donate a bed tomorrow, will organise for pick up," she added.

Omondi's admission is not the only good news. His brother, who was called to join the university three years ago but failed to because of money issues, also tagged along thanks to well-wishers; he managed to join Kabete National Polytechnic.

Coincidentally, both of them will study electrical engineering.

"I also came with his brother, who missed joining university three years ago trusting the process," said Tande.

Well-wishers help Kisii boy join university

Earlier, philanthropist cop Sammy Ondimu Ngare shared that Benjamin Nyakundi Ombati would be going to Kisii University.

Nyakundi lost his mum years ago, and his dad tried his best to raise him as a single parent, but when he completed Form Four, the parent was unable to educate him further.

Thanks to well-wishers, the young man bought some items needed for school, and another well-wisher will get him a house.
