While engaging the officers, they reportedly offered them KSh 179,000.
The amount was supposed to be a bribe to motivate the officers against pursuing the suspect.
"Their yarn quickly unravelled when they attempted to grease the officers' palms with the hefty bribe to keep the fugitive from facing justice," the DCI said.
They were arrested and interrogated, during which they produced the whereabouts of the suspected they had tried shielding.
"During the subsequent interrogation, the schemers spilt the beans, leading the officers to swoop down on a parking lot at Dondez restaurant and nab the main suspect, Rashid Oyondi Nyanuba, who was hiding inside an Isuzu double cab with the license plate KAW 092Y," the DCI stated further.
The trio was taken to the Kondele Police Station ahead of their arraignment.
In other news, a Mombasa man courageously confronted a traffic officer over allegations of soliciting bribes from public service vehicle operators.
In a video circulating online, an elderly man was seen stepping out of a vehicle as he approached the traffic officer.
He then pointed at the officer, warning that he would have recorded a video of the officer's actions if he had attempted to solicit a bribe from the matatu he was standing beside.
The officer, appearing unfazed, walked past the man and proceeded to the other side of the matatu, instructing the driver to move the vehicle.
The civilian called out traffic officers, accusing them of demanding bribes from public service vehicle drivers.
