Kitui - Elizabeth Makau, a resident of Kyoani in Kitui South, is overwhelmed with immeasurable grief after losing her two daughters in a tragic accident.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred just moments after she sent them off to school on Friday, September 13.
Makau told Nation that her day began as usual, rising very early at dawn to prepare her children for school.

She revealed that she woke up her two daughters, Susan Mueni and Brigitte Vaati, and made them breakfast while they got ready for school.
Susan, a Form Three student, and Brigitte, a Form One student, were both day scholars at Kyoani Mixed Secondary School.
They left home minutes before 6am for their usual four-kilometre walk to school, a journey that typically takes about 40 minutes.
However, this Friday morning would leave her in tears as the sisters, along with their four cousins, never made it to school.
The minors were struck by a speeding hit-and-run vehicle near Kyoani market along the Kitui-Kibwezi Road, dying on the spot.
Makau said she received the devastating phone call shortly after the accident, informing her that some students had been injured and that she needed to rush to the scene.
"I trembled and sensed something had terribly gone wrong, and immediately I got up and headed to the scene," she said with tears in her eyes.
She confirmed her worst fears after she saw her daughters lying lifeless on the road, surrounded by pools of blood.
In another story, five family members, including a three-year-old baby, perished in a tragic accident involving their car and a lorry in the Chidambaram area.
Police said the victims were returning from Chennai, where they had visited a sick relative.
According to the police, the lorry travelling from Chidambaram to Cuddalore lost control before crashing the car.
A senior Cuddalore police officer stated that most drivers were not obeying traffic laws at night, coupled with a shortage of monitoring cops and, hence, frequent accidents.
