Mombasa: DCI Arrests KDF Officer Involved In Drug Trade After 4-Day Search
  • DCI sleuths arrested a Kenya Defence Forces officer and a juvenile during their four-day operation in Mombasa

Mombasa - Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a KDF officer involved in the illegal drug trade in the coastal region.

The operation, conducted under Operation Usalama - Coast region, involved a multi-agency team comprising law enforcement, government, and non-governmental agencies.

During the raid, authorities apprehended multiple suspects, including a teenager and an army officer, and seized various narcotics, including diazepam.

"The team registered significant success in the war on narcotic substances. During the operation, several suspects including a juvenile and an army officer were arrested and narcotics seized," read DCI's statement in part.

The four-day operation targeted drug dens across several locations, including Kengeleni, Magodoroni, and Shanzu, as well as Kisumu Ndogo, Sea Breeze in Malindi township, and Timboni in Watamu.

DCI confiscates counterfeit goods

In addition to drug-related arrests, the investigation also extended to counterfeit goods. Detectives visited several shops selling footwear, where they confiscated numerous counterfeit items.

"From Prijas sports house located at Mwembe Tayari and operated by Susan Kadzo Mulewa, the team recovered 27 pieces of assorted counterfeited sportswear. Another search was conducted at Champions Style Sports shop located at China mall along Digo road and operated by Abubakar Khalif where 204 pieces of assorted counterfeited sportswear were recovered," DCI said in a statement.

At the Citizen bookshop, situated in Mwembe Tayari and operated by Khadija Ali and Buda Abdala, seven different book series were confirmed by the publishers to be counterfeit, violating copyright regulations.

Drug traffickers selling expensive illicit substances arrested

In other news, the DCI team arrested two notorious drug traffickers in Dandora, Nairobi.

Simba Khamri, a Tanzanian suspect, was identified as an expert in packaging and concealing the drug for distribution across the country and beyond.

The DCI has disclosed that, based on intelligence reports, the street value of the drug is KSh 8,000 per gram, rendering it an exceedingly profitable substance within the illicit drug market.
