Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the farmer expressed his pain following the heartbreaking news from his home village in the Iraa location, Kaplelartet ward, Sigowet-soin constituency, Kericho county.

"On Friday night, September 14, there was a robbery case in my home village. The thieves stole 10 sacks of maize when my mum was away. She is usually at home, but she travelled to Nakuru for some errands that day. When she returned home on Saturday, she did not find the maize. I had preserved them in the hope of the market prices going up so I could sell them," he tearfully said.

He said the stock was valued at KSh 40,000, and the thieves left a few maize stalks, which they destroyed.

Suspect who stole Rono's maize caught, allegedly released

Rono's mum reported the matter to the police and the respective authorities, who began their investigation.

He claimed one suspect was caught and allegedly took the fall for the whole band, refusing to share their names.

"The suspect admitted to the act, but no action was taken against him. He bribed the authorities and is now walking freely as though nothing happened. It is not the first time he has gotten away with crime. A few years ago, he committed a worse crime than this but always bribed his way out," Rono claimed.

He wanted to sell the sacks of maize for a profit and use the money for a project he had already begun.
