Nakuru - A tragic crash in the Migaa area of Salgaa early Tuesday morning, August 20, resulted in the deaths of 13 passengers.
There are concerns that the death toll may rise, as rescuers suspect that additional bodies may still be trapped in the wreckage.
Survivor Rhoda Atieno, who was travelling from Kisumu, revealed that the bus had 71 passengers en route to Mombasa and that the crew had faced mechanical issues throughout the journey. She also mentioned that the bus had not been serviced when it left Mombasa for Kakamega.

"The vehicle experienced mechanical issues, particularly on hills. Upon reaching Kericho, we asked the driver to let us off so we could switch to another vehicle, as the bus underwent servicing. There was no vehicle, so we waited over an hour. After repairs, the bus began to speed over bumps, leading us to express our concerns, but it was too late as the brakes had failed.
"Realising an accident was imminent, we began to pray. Our vehicle eventually collided with a private car and overturned, resulting in the tragic death of many passengers including a woman who was sitting next to me," said Atieno.
Another survivor, Jackson Odera, who was travelling to Mombasa for work, described being initially disoriented following the accident.
"I saw darkness, and then I heard people crying. I hit the window and went outside," he said.
The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that 55 people were rescued and taken to Coptic and Molo hospitals for urgent care.
In other news, an unknown number of people died in a tragic accident in the Thindigua area along Kiambu Road.
Reports indicated that the car had several revellers who had spent Friday, August 16, night partying at a popular entertainment joint along Kiambu Road.
The Subaru car was said to have veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a thicket.
