Lawyer Nelson Havi says the attacks on Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by his juniors in the Kenya Kwanza administration are a bad display for the presidency.

The lawyer asked President William Ruto to intervene and protect his deputy.

Havi: Why Ruto must protect Gachagua

Havi, who is a one-time president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), referenced the cordial relationship he had with his deputy during his tenure at the helm of the lawyers' umbrella.

The lawyer suggested that their good working relations would cover the likely administrative crises in the LSK top brass.

He noted that Ruto condoning attacks on his deputy was akin to attracting a curse on him, and this would be a significant failure that would soil his tenure.

"President William Ruto will fail in his administration for condoning insults on his Deputy by clerks working for him like Dennis Itumbi et al. I told him twice that my VP and I never had the bad manners President Uhuru Kenyatta subjected him to. It is a curse on a leader," tweeted Havi.

Havi's concern came a day after Gachagua explicitly spoke about the humiliations meted out to him within the presidency.

He implicated operatives at State House Nairobi whom he accused of standing in his way to deliver on his mandate.

Why Gachagua is angry at Ruto

The deputy president decried being despised by Cabinet secretaries and other juniors who have exploded into an- all-out war against him.

Gachagua, appearing on a Citizen TV interview, seemed to lay the blame on Ruto, implying that the latter had stepped back to see him face trouble.

He even decried being kicked out of a WhatsApp group hence being locked out of Ruto's diary.

In an appeal to the president, Gachagua reminded him of the vow he made when they got into office after the 2022 vote.

He recalled that Ruto promised not to allow denigration on him (Gachagua), as was the case during former president Uhuru Kenyatta's tenure when the current president was humiliated.

With the current goings-on, Gachagua seemed wary of the troubles surrounding his tenure in office, pleading with the president not to allow his impeachment.

He appreciated having gone through the worst already and that he had had enough of it.
