A Nyeri family has painfully recounted how they found out about the deadly night fire that erupted last night, killing 17 students at the Hillside Endarasha Academy.
The devastating night fire erupted last night in a dormitory where more than 150 boys were asleep, and so far, 17 of them have been confirmed dead.
Speaking to Inooro TV, a family member painfully opened up about how he found out about the night fire at the academy where his grandson studies.

John Muriithi, a pastor, said he learned about the fire at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 5. He was asleep when he heard the firefighters' sirens and woke up.
"The vehicle ferrying the firefighters passed near our home, five kilometres from the school. I was asleep, but I was alarmed, so I woke up. My neighbour also called me at that moment and told me that he heard about a fire at Hillside. I called my son, who is the boy's father and we came here immediately," he narrated.
Muriithi said that the firefighters were already putting out the fire by the time they arrived.
Sadly, since last night, they have not found out if their son is alive or not.
"We haven't seen him since we came. He is one of those students whose whereabouts are unknown at the moment. We have not been given any information, but we know some bodies were discovered, and we have watched the news," he said.
"However, we still have some hope because we are told some students escaped the fire through the windows and went to the neighbours' home," he added.
