Kirinyaga - Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa has alleged that the recent strong support from 48 Mt Kenya members of Parliament for Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki masks a hidden agenda.

Speaking at the centennial celebration of Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Ndia, Kirinyaga county, the senator suggested that there is a plot to marginalise Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the political arena.

Thang'wa claimed that the MPs are manoeuvring to impeach Gachagua and levy charges against him to redistribute his positions to others.

"They plan to unite, bring an impeachment motion, remove him from office, jail him and give positions to other people," the senator alleged.

Karungo Thang'wa vows to support Rigathi Gachagua

He defended the deputy president, asserting that Gachagua will continue to be a prominent political voice for the Mt Kenya region.

"You are our uniting factor and I will stand with you. When you talked about our unity, you had seen far. People are being used to divide Mt Kenya. Let me tell them, we are the ones who voted for Gachagua as the mountain and we will not allow anyone to touch him," he added.

The senator warned CS Kindiki to be cautious with the support he's receiving, pointing out that Mt Kenya MPs had previously backed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a key figure only to later abandon him.

His claims come amid a deepening rift in the region with several Kenya Kwanza leaders condemning Gachagua for missing a church service attended by President William Ruto.

How Moses Kuria reacted after Gachagua missed Ruto's event

Meanwhile, Moses Kuria, a senior advisor on the Executive Council of Economic Advisers, expressed dissatisfaction after Gachagua failed to accompany President Ruto to a church service in Nyeri.

Kuria declared that Gachagua's position would soon be filled to ensure no vacancies at presidential events.

This statement prompted a range of reactions from Kenyans, with some remaining indifferent to the escalating conflicts.
