Murang'a University Prohibits Male, Female Students From Visiting Each Other's Hostels
  • Male and female students of Murang'a University of Technology were instructed not to visit each other in the rooms as the insitution had imposed a ban on them
  • According to a letter written by the Dean of Students, Asige Chavulimu, the university senate learnt that some students had been entering their colleagues' hostels at any time
  • Initially, the institution had the students on a 10 am to 10m pm time limit but now they will have to use benches in the school that they have promised to build

Murang'a University of Technology male and female students have been banned from visisting each other in their rooms with immediate effect.

Initially, the students were allowed to visit each other from 10 am to 10 pm but now they have been asked not to visist each other in the rooms at all.

Why did Murang'a University of Technology impose ban?

"It has come to the notice of the University Senate that some students are abusing the privildege of being allowed into the rooms of the opposite sex," read part of the letter from the Dean of Students, Asige Chavulimu.

"Students residing in the university hostel have raised a complaint that some of their colleauges are getting into their rooms antime they want. That is a serious infringement of privacy," she added.

What step will Murang'a University of Technology take?

Asige said that the university is tasked with taking into account students who disturb colleagues and infringe on their right to privacy.

The university is now looking to build benches where students will fellowship with each other whenever they want to meet.

Murang'a University of Technology is not the first to impose a ban based on the conduct of the students, other institions have done so based on how they dress, among other issues.

Moi University bans students form wearing miniskirts

Moi University raised a concern about increased cases of indecent dressing within its premises.

The higher learning institution based in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county, warned students not to adhere to the dress code in the institution's regulations or face disciplinary actions.

Tumbo cuts, ripped jeans, micro mini skirts, transparent dresses and those that reveal bra straps, sagging trousers and plastic shoes were banned.
