Nairobi - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was noticeably absent from a high-profile meeting between President William Ruto and Nyeri MPs at State House.
The DPs loud absence has further fuelled speculation amid growing rumours of his possible impeachment.
In a statement shared on X, provided updates from the meeting, where he discussed critical infrastructure projects in Nyeri County, including roads, fresh produce markets, water programs, and the elevation of Othaya’s Mwai Kibaki Hospital to parastatal status.

However, Gachagua’s absence from the group photos has raised eyebrows, especially given his strong advocacy for development in the Mt Kenya region.
"Othaya's Mwai Kibaki Hospital, an annexe of Kenyatta National Hospital, will be gazetted as a parastatal with a board and an independent budget. This elevation will ensure the health facility is fully equipped to enable it to play its rightful role in the provision of Universal Health Coverage that begins next month. Met Nyeri MPs, State House Nairobi, and discussed the government's road, stadia, fresh produce markets and water programmes in the county," Ruto wrote on X, sharing pictures of himself with the Nyeri leaders.
Gachagua's absence continues to fuel speculation that his relationship with the president had totally broken down amid Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s growing influence in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region.
On Sunday, September 15, the Deputy President snubbed another President Ruto's function in Nyeri county.
The second in command failed to show up despite the organisers reserving his seat next to the president.
Gachagua. who attended centenary celebrations of Our Lady of Sorrows Baricho Catholic Parish in Kirinyaga county, downplayed his move to skip Ruto's event.
The DP disclosed that he had intended to join Ruto in Nyeri but changed his mind after he was told a cake would be served in the celebrations to mark the church’s 100 years.
He stated that the event at Baricho Catholic Parish got so colourful that he decided to stay till the end.
