Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the mother of three said her daughter's fast-approaching admission date is Monday, August 26.
"I opened a WhatsApp group to fundraise for my daughter's university education. The response has neither been good nor bad, as people have pledges but are yet to fulfil them. The day for the admission is getting closer each day, and I am worried if the money is not enough," she said.
The single mum said her daughter's university fees per semester amount to over KSh 70,000, which is expensive.
She runs a salon business, which does not generate much money to cater to the several family needs.
"My firstborn daughter, Wendy Nkatha, was born with heart complications and has been taking medicines for a while. She recently had a successful heart surgery, and she is still recovering, but I foot her medical bills. I also have to buy shopping and pay school fees," she said.
The Tharaka-Nithi woman said she was at her wit's end as she continued to search for solutions for her daughter, who attended Chuka Girls High School.
She knows that her daughter Njoki, who scored B minus in the 2023 KCSE exam, needs more than school fees, which troubles her heart and stresses her out.
Financial contributions towards Mwende's daughter's university fees can be sent to her number of +254 720 732758.
In another story, prospective Kenyan degree students starting their programmes this year will pay revised fees.
Higher Education principal secretary Beatrice Inyangala announced the annulment of the previous structure determined by Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Universities were instructed to communicate the new fees to the students and their parents starting August 5.
