Ferdinand Omanyala is in a race against time if he wants to make the Diamond League finals this season.
The fastest man in Africa is currently out of the top 10 places, with only two races remaining before the finals in Brussels on September 13 and 14.
The Diamond League final will return to Belgium for the first time since 2019. The winners will battle it out in the two-day meet at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme.
Omanyala has only competed in one Diamond League event this year when he finished second behind Fred Kerley in Silesia this past weekend.

As explained on the Diamond League's website, the lucrative games often consist of 15 meets in different countries throughout the course of the year. The one-day meets see athletes compete in various disciplines in 14 cities from May to September, with the top athletes qualifying for the final.
In each of the first 14 meetings, the top eight athletes are awarded points based on their finishing position. Number one gets 8 points, number two gets 7 points, number three gets 6 points, and so on until the eighth athlete.
For the final, the top six in the field events, the top eight in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m, and the top ten in the 1500m and long-distance events are chosen after the points tally from the 14 events is accumulated.
Omanyala is currently on 7 points, which is only good for 11th place. He is scheduled to compete in Rome this Friday. The Commonwealth champion bagged bronze in the 2023 final behind Cristian Coleman and Noah Lyles.
The final is a winner-take-all competition for one athlete to be crowned the Diamond League champion.
