When asked how Kenya was leveraging AI, Ruto highlighted its significant role in various sectors, particularly in education.

He explained that AI is being used to improve the efficiency of distributing education funds through means-testing instruments.

‘’Already we are leveraging AI to do two very important things. One, we are leveraging on AI to do our means testing instrument for how we are distributing education money to beneficiaries. We use AI to give us the algorithms on what is the financial status of each parent. ’’ Ruto revealed.
"We are using the same to desegregate how we distribute our fertiliser to farmers and we are now using it for the beneficiaries of our universal health coverage. There are people who the government has to pay for, and again, AI is helping us in that space," Ruto added.

Regarding the legal framework, he assured attendees that legislation to regulate AI use in education and other sectors, such as agriculture, was already underway in Parliament.

Ruto meets Ford Foundation president

In related news, TUKO.co.ke reported that Ruto met with and engaged the president of the Ford Foundation, an American firm that deals with human welfare.

Ruto had accused the America-based foundation of sponsoring the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests in July 2024.

However, he changed his tune when he met Ford Foundation president Darren Walker and other officials in New York.

He applauded the foundation for its commitment to the country, which aimed to ensure reforms in economic development.
