The president revealed that the green energy project would power 1,400 households and be reliable amid frequent electricity blackouts.
"In Mageta, Bondo constituency, commissioned the Mageta Island Solar Grid, which will power 1,400 households, support fish trading by powering cold rooms and improving public service delivery in hospitals and schools," Ruto posted on his X handle.
Ruto explained that the installation of seven solar mini-grids under the Kenya Electricity Modernisation Project will enhance access to clean and reliable power supply.
"This will reduce power costs for businesses and supply electricity to more than 4,000 households in Siaya county," he added.
Ruto started his three-day Luo Nyanza region development tour on Wednesday, August 28.
During the tour, the president launched several projects and held meet-the-people meetings across Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties.
A statement from the state house noted Ruto launched the Kegonga Cluster Water Project in Kuria East.
He also inspected the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project and commissioned the long-stalled Migori-Muhuru and Masara-Sori main roads.
Construction works on the two roads have stalled for about three years.
Although no specific timeline was provided, Ruto declared his commitment to transforming Homa Bay into a city.
To achieve city status, Homa Bay must meet criteria such as a population of at least 250,000, effective service delivery, and well-developed infrastructure.
The town must also secure approval from the Senate Committee on Devolution and demonstrate strong disaster management and waste disposal systems.
