Politician David Osiany, a talented singer, has been hailed for bringing the house down during Mama Ida Odinga's colourful birthday party in Nairobi.

The party, which also doubled up as Ida and Raila Odinga's 50th anniversary, was attended by the who-is-who in the political and social classes in Nairobi.

One of the night's highlights was the beloved couple dancing the night away to Osiany's perfect rendition of Harry Belafonte's Jamaica Farewell.

How did Raila meet Ida Odinga?

Raila met his wife, Ida, while he was a lecturer at the University of Nairobi in the early 1970s.

Ida Odinga's sister was married to Raila Odinga's cousin, which makes her his sister-in-law.

It is, however, not unusual among the Luo community to have cousins or brothers marrying from the same family and the two got married in 1973.

Raila Odinga treats wife

In another story, Raila treated his wife Ida to a lavish birthday party as they also marked their 50th marriage anniversary at a five-star hotel in Nairobi.

Ida arrived at Villa Rosa Kempinski in a luxurious vehicle, accompanied by her grandchildren, and her husband received her lovingly.
