Kapsabet athlete dies

This came days after a Kapsabet-based athlete was killed on the road.

Sammy Kosgei, a rising athlete, was reportedly hit by a speeding matatu in May along the Lessos-Kapsabet road.

A police report showed that the former world record holder over 25 km was knocked down by a speeding vehicle and died on the spot.

Nandi County Police Commissioner Joseph Kavoo said the athlete was strolling along the Lessos-Kapsabet highway when a speeding vehicle hit him before speeding away.

The police boss stated that they were yet to ascertain where he was heading to at 7.30 pm when the accident occurred at Emaki Trading Centre, Mti Moja.

"Alipata accident jana pahali panaitwa Mti Moja on your way to Emaki," Jason Kiptarbei, a resident told TUKO.co.ke.

Sammy was a promising athlete

The family spokesperson, Hosea Saina, said they had been robbed of a promising athlete destined for greatness.

"It's sad that we lost a young athlete who has been running internationally, and his future was bright. Death has robbed us of a humble and hard-working athlete who was destined for the top," he said.

Saina, a retired athlete, divulged that the family would have a meeting on Saturday, May 27, to begin burial arrangements.
