Murang'a - Residents of Muhohoyo, Makuyu Constituency, have been living in darkness and fear for the last four months.

Jane Muthoni, a resident, claimed that criminal gangs had been operating daily since the power went out.

She explained that without security lights or any form of lighting, they are having trouble going about their activities at night without fear.

"Thieves are now coming to our homes every day because it is dark and you cannot see anyone. There are no security lights,"she told TV47.

The sick have also been affected by the blackout, pointing out that most medicine that requires refrigeration have been going bad.

Muthoni explained that some of them had resorted to taking the products to the next centres, adding that it is an expensive venture.

"There are sick mothers and even the elderly who have diabetes. Those medicine are kept in the fridge. Now those fridges are not working because there is no electricity. They are spending a lot of money to take them to Makuyu or Kamahuha to be kept in the fridge," she added.
