A Kenyan woman identified as Josephine Khachira has left the world sympathising with her after narrating how she was allegedly conned by an agent that helps people secure jobs in the Middle East.

Why did Uasin Gishu man kick out his wife?

Addressing the senate, Josephine narrated how she sold her cow and convinced her husband to sell his motorbike (boda), which was their source of income to pay agency fees for their daughter to secure a job abroad.

She revealed she took her daughter, who had finished Form Four in 2016, to Eldoret for medical check-up as instructed by the agency, and everything was okay.

The 55-year-old mother said she was asked to give KSh 150,000 and first paid KSh 75,000, which she got after selling the bike and cow.

She narrated how her daughter was promised a job abroad immediately, but after several months, nothing happened, and that is when the rain started beating.

"Niliongea na mzee alikuwa na pikipiki yenye ilikuwa inatusaidia. na nilikuwa ng'ombe moja. Ilipofika wakati huo, niliambia mzee tuuze ndio huyo msichana atasaidia hawa watoto wengine wadogo. Akakubali na akakubali tuuze piki piki na ng'ombe (I talked to my husband and he sold his motorbike which was our source of income. I sold my cow too. I convinced my husband that our daughter would see her younger siblings through school )," she said.

After back and forth with the agent, she identified as Judy, the caring mother said her marriage broke.

Mimi sikai na mzee sahii. Alinifukuza akaniambia umefanya watoto wangu wadogo hawakuli kwa sababu ya kupeleka pesa huko Uasin Gishu. Naishi kwa shida (I don't have a husband now. My husband chased me away. He told me I am the reason we were struggling to raise our kids. I live a sad life)," she said.

Josephine said she had nowhere to go, disclosing she puts up with family friends and cannot return home.

Josephine said her daughter gave up after the long wait, and she was not okay. The heartbroken mother said despite being promised by an agent she contacted to secure her daughter a job that she would refund her money, she is yet to get it back.

"Ndoa yangu imeharibika juu ya hii kazi. Maisha yangu imeharibika? Mzee hataki kuniona," she said.

Josephine said she had two children at home because they are unable to get school fees to further their education.

"Niko na pressure, niko na ulcers siwezi hata fanyia mtu kazi...Mzee aliniambia ukirudi kwangu, rudi na pesa (I have pressure and ulcers. I cannot work for anyone. My husband told me to return only if I got his money back)," she said.

Uasin Gishu student puts leaders to task

Josephine's story is no different from that of dozens of parents in the populous Uasin Gishu county who are up in arms against the leadership of the devolved unit over the controversial scholarships to Finland.

The academic airlifts were initiated during the tenure of former governor and now senator Jackson Mandago. On Monday, August 7, Governor Jonathan Bii convened a meeting to iron out the issue that has seen parents and student stage protests in the county.

During presentations, a young girl, Mercy Tarus caught the attention of many Kenyans due to her courage when speaking to the leaders.

She openly told them that they kept lying, smiling, and looking innocent, yet they knew the whole deal was a scam.

"You are very mean with the truth, you keep lying, you smile at us, with a very smooth tongue and a very soft face that looks like it's very innocent, but you keep on lying and lying," she lamented as the other aggrieved students cheered.

The courageous girl further questioned why the leaders arrived at the meeting late despite stating the meeting would start at 9am. Holding her passport, the young lady told the leaders that they may dismiss her sentiment since she was young.
