Following the heavy rains witnessed in the country the past few weeks, the effects of the floods are still being felt by Kenyans.
Photos of a bereaved family in Elgeyo Marakwet carrying the coffin of their kin while crossing River Embobut touched Kenyans online.
The family was forced to cross through the river after the bridge collapsed, following an attempt by a lorry carrying murram to cross it but failed. The incident left three people injured.

Kenyans emotionally engaged with the family, who were still risking their lives to take their loved one home. The river is known for sweeping away residents when it is flooded.

"There should be a permanent and not a temporary solution. It has been temporary for long,"

"It is messy and sad to see havoc to see fallen carried as such. Condolences to the family and relatives. Sad indeed,"

Motorists were urged to use an alternative route after the collapse.
The bridge connecting Tot-Soko Bora directly was closed from Wednesday, May 1, until construction was completed.
The motorists were advised to use the Chesoi-Embobut-Sambalat-Soko-Bora and Sambalat-Chesogon-Takaiwa-Kolowa-Chesongoch-Chesoi routes.
Over the weekend, River Nyando in Kisumu burst its bank flooding the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, which paralysed transport activities.
Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) advised motorists using the highway to drive carefully as they approached the River Nyando bridge.
