Residents of Riangari village were left in shock after the decomposing body of a woman who went missing on Sunday, May 19, was found in their neighbour's house.

The body of the 35-year-old, identified as Lilian Nkatha, was found under the bed of her neighbour.

How was the body discovered?

According to the family, Nkatha was last seen on Sunday at 11am, when she was last seen with the neighbour, a casual labourer in the area.

After the deceased failed to return home on Sunday evening, the family began searching for her on farms on Monday and Tuesday, before reporting the matter to the police.

"Immediately, we learned that Nkatha was missing, we searched everywhere for her but could not find her, and that is when we reported the case to the police and recorded our statements," Nkatha's sister Rose Makena said.

However, on Wednesday, May 22, the residents discovered flies around a neighbour's house and an awful smell.

According to a report by Nation Africa, the police broke the locked door and they found the deceased brutally murdered and lying in a pool of blood under the bed.

The deceased's body was discovered with head, neck and hand injuries, which indicated torture before her life was cut short.

Police have started a search for the suspect, who is on the run after committing the heinous crime.

Family blames police laxity

According to Makena, their calls to a local leader to help them search for their kin were in vain.

"When we told the administrator that our sister is missing and we wanted his help, he ignored us," Makena.

Nkatha's husband in Meru, Peter Muriithi, was informed, and said he had communicated with the deceased on the suspect's phone on Sunday before it went off on Monday.

Woman's body found in her house

Elsewhere, the decomposing body of Faith Kerubo was found by her neighbour in Bomet after she went to borrow foodstuff.

Kerubo's body was found wrapped in a blanket lying on the side of the bed, fully dressed in a white blouse and black skirt.

Police said the case will be taken as a murder case after investigations, as the deceased had bruises on her hand.
