Emotionally beginning his speech, Ruto said it was both a happy and sad day as the army received diligent men, while the pass-out happened as the nation was still mourning.
"We are assembled with mixed emotions to this noble pass-out parade. On one hand, we are immensely proud of the accomplishment of the recruits and at the same time, we continue to mourn the death of our gallant soldiers including the late CDF General Francis Ogolla and others. Their death left a void in our military rankings and our hearts," he said.
Ruto showered praises to the late CDF for his exemplary leadership in the military and professionalism throughout his career.
The president further said his legacy would inspire many KDF recruits in the coming generations in the military
"General Ogolla's wise leadership, magnificent example, integrity, and dedication exemplified the best of professionalism at KDF. He served as a beacon for us. His legacy will inspire many," Ruto remarked.
After Ogolla's death, Ruto promised the nation a thorough investigation into events leading to the CDF chopper crash in Elgeyo Marakwet county.
His assurance came after Azimio's team demanded inclusion in the investigating team to probe the cause of the crash.
