Nairobi - Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has called out Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru following her criticism of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement on Monday, May 20, Waiguru said public officers like those holding the position of deputy president should not personalise their offices.

In an indirect attack on Gachagua and his allies, Waiguru said it's wrong to make it appear taboo for anyone else to aspire to be the deputy president.

The second-term governor, who analysts say might be eying the DP position in 2027, said every Kenyan, including women and youths, has a right to pursue their dream of holding any office in the country.

How did Wamuchomba respond to Waiguru?

However, in a swift retort, Wamuchomba stated that Waiguru lacks the moral authority to lecture Mt Kenya leaders.

Wamuchomba pointed out the ills facing Mt Kenya and questioned what the governor had done through her position as chairperson of the council of governors.

The lawmaker slammed Waiguru for defending the Kenya Kwanza government despite most Mt Kenya residents struggling and government projects remaining incomplete.

"Dear Governor Anne Waiguru, with much respect, stop lecturing us on who should speak about what in the Mt. Kenya Region. You are the Chair of the Council of Governors sitting pretty as we struggle with the rising economic stress, closing businesses, alcoholism, and neglect of projects by the Kenya Kwanza regime, which you are now defending online."

The MP reminded Waiguru that as she is in the US with President William Ruto, the talk has shifted to one man, one vote, one shilling.

Is there division in Kenya Kwanza?

Sticking to Mt Kenya politics, Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga cautioned against any plans to undermine Gachagua in the Kenya Kwanza government.

Speaking in Nyeri on Sunday, May 19, Kahiga hinted at a possible fallout between Ruto and Gachagua.

The tough-taking Kahiga said the people of the Mt. Kenya region would not allow Gachagua to be mistreated like Ruto was allegedly mistreated under former president Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.
