One of the newspapers highlighted a young girl's suffering in hospital after being picked and attacked by unknown people while at a birthday party.

1. The Star

The Star reported on the plight of a 17-year-old girl from Murang'a who is currently fighting for her life in hospital after being doused in acid.

She left her parent's home in Kenol, Murang'a county, to attend a friend's birthday party, oblivious to the tragedy ahead.

According to The Star, all was well at the club where the fete was held until a man familiar to her showed up.

The man convinced the girl to hop out of the club, informing her that there was a better party in a distant club.

Her mother would later be informed that the girl had been involved in an accident.

Much was not shared at first.

She was found in a hospital in critical condition; she had been sexually assaulted and burnt with acid almost to be unrecognisable.

2. Daily Nation

The daily reported on the flooding havoc that has hit the country following the heavy downpour.

In Nairobi, families in various commoner neighbourhoods were displaced as the raging floodwaters swept through their houses.

A number of people have been reported dead, with several others still missing.

President William Ruto sanctioned a multi-agency approach to the disaster, this even as Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga called on the state to declare it a national disaster.

Raila noted that children and women are the ones mostly affected by the flooding, which has caused damage to properties and even deaths.

The Kenya Red Cross has been deploying its teams to the affected areas to evacuate the households affected by the flooding resulting from the torrential rains.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had called on Kenyans to brace themselves ahead of the heavy rains, which would be around for a time.

3. People Daily

The publication reported on Ukur Yatani's woes at the hands of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials.

The ex-Treasury Cabinet Secretary was arrested over a graft scandal during his tenure in the previous regime.

Allegedly connected to a corruption case involving significant sums of money, Yatani was apprehended during a morning raid on Wednesday, April 24.

He was taken to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, where he was questioned about his purported role in the loss of over KSh 8.2 billion.

The anti-graft body sleuths raided both Yatani's Nairobi and Marsabit homes.

Yatani was accompanied to the Integrity Centre by his lawyer James Orengo, who is also the Siaya governor.

4. Taifa Leo

Taifa Leo reported on the progress of the police probe into the brutal murder of Rita Waeni.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced they had made progress in their work, suggesting they were close to catching up with the suspect on the run.

Photos believed to be the suspect's obtained from CCTV were shared with the public.

Members of the public were called on to help locate the man, said to be fluent in English and Kiswahili and well-versed in the geography of Nairobi and its environs.

The headache for the detectives is the man's whereabouts; he is said to have mastered the tact of evading the focused CCTV lenses.

The severed body of the 20-year-old finalist at JKUAT University was found in the garbage area of the apartment she had booked herself in with the suspect.

Waeni's killer had already taken off when the body was discovered.

Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor explained that the autopsy findings indicated the deceased was strangled.

Further, her head base was bruised by a blunt object, according to Oduor, who added that some of the bones were fractured.

The head was detached from the body and thrown at a thicket in Kiambu.

She was laid to rest on February 5, 2024, in a private function.
