A 26-year-old man died by gunshot after an incident in Thika on Friday, May 17.

A fracas ensued in the area after three members of parliament faced off with Kamenu MCA Peter Mburu and his supporters over the launch of a market project.

Gatundu South MP's gun incident causes death

Thika Town MP Alice Ng'ang'a, while in the company of her counterparts from Kikuyu (Kimani Ichung'wah) and Gatundu South (Gabriel Kagombe), claimed credit for the Kiganjo market to the opposition of the area MCA.

What appeared to be a regular verbal exchange between the MPs' group and that of the MCA escalated to a display of a gun incident as both parties were determined to camp on the tract that would host the market.

Ng'ang'a and her company asked the MCA and his team, who were putting up structures on the grounds, to vacate the place, to no avail.

According to the police, the fracas gained momentum by the second, with Kagombe removing his gun to shoot in the air.

Amateur video clips showed Kagombe opening fire, perhaps to scare away the MCA's group, which was fast approaching.

A round landed on the aforementioned 26-year-old, David Nduati, who succumbed to the gunshot wound he sustained.

"During the melee, Hon. Kagombe shot indiscriminately towards the MCA’s group. One David Nduati, aged 26 years, was fatally injured by being shot, with the round exiting on the chest," partly read a police report seen by TUKO.co.ke.

The deceased's body was moved to the General Kago Hospital Mortuary ahead of postmortem.

Another man, 46, sustained a serious injury on his left arm in which a bullet lodged; he was rushed to the Thika Level 5 Hospital.

Kagombe's colleagues, including Ng'ang'a and Ichung'wah, were whisked away to safety after the situation seemed to get out of hand.

The Gatundu South MP, whose photos in hospital went viral after the incident, attributed the melee to Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi.

He accused Wamatangi of using the MCA to frustrate efforts by the elected leaders to bring development to their constituents.

"It is extremely sad that an elected governor can use an MCA to send goons to attack members of parliament on duty bringing development to the people of Kiambu. It is even worse that in the ensuing altercation, I and other residents were injured," he said on X.

This would not be the first instance in which Kagombe is seen as being on the loose while in public.

Kagombe faces off with police

In September last year, the lawmaker was at the centre of a scene in his constituency where he faced off with the police.

He had stormed an event that Wamatangi was to grace.

Kagombe was addressing the locals in attendance when a uniformed police officer went ahead to switch off the microphone he was using.

The law enforcer's move did not sit well with Kagombe, who got fired up and started throwing expletives at him.

On his side were his supporters, who joined him in castigating the law enforcers at the event.

He accused the governor of sanctioning the 'maltreatment' accorded to him by the police.
