Makueni - A fatal accident involving a bus with 46 passengers on board has happened at Sultan Hamud along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

The Wednesday, May 15, accident occurred after the bus belonging to Sema Sacco overturned in a notorious blackspot along Mombasa Road.

Who died in the Sultan Hamud bus accident?

Mukaa Sub County Police Commander Barnabas Ngeno confirmed the accident, saying one person died on the spot while several others were injured, as reported by Gatuamba FM.

Well-wishers from Wa Utu market and police on patrol rushed to help the passengers who were trapped inside the vehicle.

Those injured were rushed to the nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.

The accident caused massive traffic on the busy highway, but police restored order.

Preliminary reports indicate the deceased was the tout and was swinging on the door when the accident occurred.

Police said the bus was plying the Kyambeke-Sultan Hamud route in Makueni County and was headed to Nairobi.

How people died in the Mlima Kiu area accident

The accident happened near the place where more than ten people died after several vehicles crashed.

The Monday, April 1, accident involved five motor vehicles in Salama, Mlima Kiu area, which was considered a blackspot.

Mukaa Sub-county Police commander Barnabas Ng'eno said the grisly accident involved an 18-seater registered to Spannish Sacco matatu, a 14-seater matatu registered to NAEKANA Sacco, two trucks and a saloon car at 8.30pm.

According to the police boss, the accident occurred after a lorry attempted to overtake, resulting in a head-on collision with Spanish Sacco Matatu.

Photos shared from the accident scene showed the harrowing magnitude of the accident as the matatu was severely damaged.
