Police have arrested a pastor for detaining seriously sick patients in his church for prayers so that they could get healed.

Where is Soroti Regional Hospital

According to Monitor UG, the Galilee Ministry of Christ Church had detained 30 faithful for prayers, five of them being critically ill.

Police spokesman Edison Obukulem said the rescued patients were rushed to Soroti Regional Hospital in Soroti City West for medical attention.

"Pray for them but do not admit them; always refer them for medical attention," Obukulem warned pastors, maintaining that they are not medical personnel.

Emmanuel Okello suffers from cancer

On his part, the pastor said that they receive people with various ailments and immediately start praying for them.

He added that although many cases had been referred to Mulago Hospital, they required prayers. He also clarified that the patients were kept in church to avoid distractions at home.

One of the patients, Emmanuel Okello, said he was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 but unfortunately didn't find good treatment at local hospitals.

"I preferred God's attention and came to church. I will accept and go back to Mulaho Hospital but do not have means," said Okello.

Paul Mackenzie demands access to wife

In another story, Pastor Paul McKenzie asked the court to let him access his wife and soap following a skin infection in the male cells.

Mackenzie was also involved in a stunt with a photojournalist in February, and the latter was filming him during court proceedings.

A statement by the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said the accused pleaded not guilty to all accounts of murder.

McKenzie has been in police custody since he was accused of founding a cult that allegedly led many people from across the country to fast to death so that they could go to heaven directly.
