Pittsburgh - A father is grieving the tragic loss of his beloved nine-year-old daughter who died after being struck by a car at Homewood South.

The devastated father, Cory Carter, shared that Courtney Carter was riding her bike just a block from their Pittsburgh home when the accident occurred.

How Cory Carter learnt Courtney's death

She was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries, as CBS News reported.

"I was just informed that she was hit by a car. I rushed to the hospital where she was taken, and I saw my baby die. She was my first daughter, my first love, my everything. I can’t believe she’s gone. She loved animals. She just laughs. I never saw my daughter unhappy. To see my daughter die was traumatising to me. I saw my baby take her last breath. Please pray for me and my family," he said emotionally.

Courtney was about to start fourth grade at Pittsburgh Faison. The heartbroken father described the crash as taking away something irreplaceable: his little “Troll,” a nickname he gave her because of her wild hair when she was younger.

“My baby was loved. She was a beautiful soul, a beautiful person inside and out. She deserved better. She deserves justice,” Carter added.

Some children from the neighbourhood released balloons in Courtney’s honour at the site of the accident.

Others contributed to a growing memorial, paying their respects and commemorating her memory.
