Kakamega - A family is still mourning the loss of five members who died in a tragic accident on Eldoret-Malaba Road.

The family, which included the 29-year-old bride, Brenda Masakhwe, was returning from Turbo to Webuye after discussing her dowry.

Brenda Masakhwe's mother speaks about daughter's death

Mary Masakhwe, her mother, tearfully recounted her shock and sorrow, unable to fathom her daughter’s death following a joyous and successful wedding.

"We were filled with joy, playing, eating, and celebrating. The wedding was beautiful. I never imagined my daughter would end up on the road like this. When I heard she had passed away, the pain was overwhelming," the grieving mother told Citizen TV.

Brenda's father added that upon receiving the devastating news, they quickly travelled to Kakamega to retrieve the bodies and take them to the morgue.

Brenda was remembered as a hardworking individual who built a home for her parents, cared for her siblings, and was the primary breadwinner for the family.

The family has begun making arrangements for the burial.

What caused the Eldoret-Malaba Road accident?

The collision occurred on Sunday, August 25, when an oil tanker struck a tractor, lost control, and crashed into the family’s Probox car.

According to Lugari Sub-County Police Commander Julius Meli reported that the oil tanker driver was speeding. Unfortunately, the tractor driver and his passengers fled the scene following the accident.

Father mourns daughter in moving tribute

In other news, a father was heartbroken after her nine-year-old daughter died in a road crash in Homewood South, USA.

The minor was riding her bike when the accident happened. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The father described her as a cherished child, his first daughter, who always smiled at everything.
