Nairobi - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced his intention to hold public rallies across the country to engage directly with Kenyans.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the DP reiterated that it's critical to keep the people who elected him informed about the country's state of affairs.

He highlighted the need for transparency and communication with his supporters, especially in light of the ongoing political conversations, including rumours of his impeachment.

"It's not about impeaching Rigathi Gachagua; it's about what it'll do to the country in terms of political stability. This is a DP who was elected by 7.2 million Kenyans who has a following and some people who believe in him. We're having a country that is having challenges economically; we have people feeling low, and then you want to come and poison the political atmosphere. I don't think anybody wants to go in that direction," Gachagua posed.

The DP expressed concern over the negative political climate, which he says could disrupt the government’s development agenda.

Gachagua insisted that the people who gave him the mandate—the Kenyan electorate—deserve to be kept in the loop about government activities.

"We'll inform the people, and that I'll do, by the way. I've a responsibility also; you know I am elected. Going forward in the next few weeks, I'll be talking to my supporters and telling them what is going on, what is being planned and what is likely to happen so that they are aware. You see we're elected by the people; we have a responsibility to always inform your employer what is going on," Gachagua clarified.

Who is Gachagua loyal to

The second in command stated that his duty to the people outweighs any internal party politics, arguing that he was elected by the citizens of Kenya and not appointed by President William Ruto or Members of Parliament.

"I was not given this job by the president or by MPs. The president nominated me and proposed to me for confirmation by the people of Kenya. The people of Kenya, by a popular vote, confirmed President William Ruto's nominee, Rigathi Gachagua, as the right person for the job. The people who gave me this job are the people of Kenya," Gachagua added.

Gachagua underscored the importance of explaining the situation to the people, particularly when there are issues that could affect the country's political stability.

"Therefore, if there are issues along the way that I find disturbing, cause political instability in this country and disrupt our development agenda, I have a responsibility to go to the people and explain what is happening and that I'll do. I have started today, and I'll be doing that along the way because I am answerable to some people. I'll go to the people," the stated.

What will happen to MPs planning to impeach Gachagua

Meanwhile, former Laikipia county woman representative Cate Waruguru strongly criticised lawmakers for orchestrating an impeachment plot against the deputy president.

During the burial of Lamu deputy governor Raphael Wanyua, where Gachagua was also present, Waruguru warned lawmakers targeting the deputy president.

The former lawmaker said MPs pushing for Gachagua's impeachment will not stand a chance come the 2027 General Election.
