World Athletics U20 Final Medal Table, USA Finishes Top, Kenya 5th

• The USA finished top of the table for the second edition in a row despite their relay mistakes
• The Americans ended the competition with eight gold medals, four silver medals and four medals

The 2024 World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, concluded on Saturday morning with nerve-wracking events.

The USA finished top of the medals table with 16 medals, proving its dominance in track and field.

Kenya, on the other hand, was the second among African countries behind perennial rivals Ethiopia.

Despite their relay gaffes, the Americans won eight gold medals, four silver medals, and four bronze medals.

Interestingly, four of their gold medals came from the track: the men's 110m hurdles, the 400m hurdles, the men's 4x400m relay, and the women's 4x400m relay.

Ethiopia finished second on the medals table with six gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. All their gold medals were from athletics.

Sprint giants Jamaica finished fourth with five medals, four gold and a bronze, while China was third with 11 medals. South Africa's Bayanda Walaza was one of the stand-out performers in Lima, per Athletics Weekly.

Meanwhile, Kenya finished fifth with seven medals: three gold, three silver, and a bronze. As always, all their medals came from athletics.

Andrew Alamisi (5000m), Edmund Serem (3000m SC) and Sarah Moraa (800m) delivered the gold medals, while Denis Kipkoech, Matthew Kosgei, and Marion Jepng'etich won silver medals. Diana Chepkemoi won the bronze medal, per World Athletics.

Kenyan athletes did not better their performance from the previous edition in Cali, Colombia, where they finished with 10 medals.

Paris Olympics athletics medal table

The athletics giants finished with 11 gold medals, two silvers and five bronze medals.
