Kamau's aunt, Millicent Ngugi, told TUKO.co.ke that the youngster lost direction after he boarded a matatu from Bamburi to Ferry.

The driver noticed he was unaccompanied, but they couldn't get information from him because he was autistic and was unable to explain himself.

"Passengers suggested he be taken to a children's home, upon which the staff at the home saw the TUKO article and contacted his mother.

Children's home took good care

Millicent added that the little boy had been at the children's home the entire week as he had been taken in the same day he went missing.

Given that he was hosted in a safe space, they found him in good health and high spirits.

The family appreciated Kenyans for sharing the story and ensuring word reached the home where Kamau had been living.

They also thanked the children's home for offering shelter to the boy who would have been stranded and lost forever.

How did Kamau go missing?

It all began when Everline left the kids having lunch at Aroma Inn Mwembeni to view a potential home, only to return and find one missing.

It emerged that Kamau overwhelmed his elder brother, who was also left in charge of their younger sister, and wafted away.

Caught between following Kamau and leaving the baby behind, the brother chose to stay behind.

In a new environment with no one to guide him, Kamau lost track of the location and found himself in unknown territory.

Search efforts were hampered by the fact that the little boy is non-verbal due to his condition, which made it difficult to track him.
