George Magondu, the pilot of the ill-fated chopper that crashed on April 18, killing 10 people on board with two surviving, is survived by a widow and three kids.

The loss of a loved one is never easy to get through, and Major Magondu's wife, Brenda Okello, is braving the storm.

Magondu, a 29-year-old pilot, was one of the casualties in the Chesugon crash in Elgeyo-Marakwet on April 18.

The mother of three was heartbroken to learn of her husband's demise. She has been sharing videos of their family on social media while mourning him.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) held a requiem mass for its fallen heroes, and Brenda was in attendance with her three kids.

She donned a black dress, and her kids stuck by her side in the photos. Her kids donned matching suits and, at one point, escorted their mum to the podium.

Commander Kenya Air Force (KAF), Major General John Omenda, spoke during the mass and termed the fallen soldiers heroes who died in the line of duty. He said:

"This is one of the worst tragedies that the Kenya Air Force and the Kenya Defence Forces as a whole has faced. I pass my condolences to all the bereaved. I have constituted a board to investigate the cause of the crash and give recommendations to further improve the safety of our troops going forward."

How Magondu's family learnt of his demise

His mother, Mary Wambui, recounted how they learned of the crash through Magondu's wife, who was also a military captain.

They were informed that he had sustained a severe facial injury and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to Citizen TV, Wambui stated that her son has left a wide gap.
